When I shyly asked her about her dark lens in her glasses and the while cane she unfolded to my surprise, she smiled and simply said: "It is all about attitude. I mean positive attitude." From that moment, I admired her.

New glasses

She bought glasses with a new type of lenses. The optician told her that the lenses would not be as thick as her old glasses had been. Little did she know how small the bowls in the centres of the lenses will be. She has two options now. Either wear the old pair with 2 cm thick lenses or wear the new ones with small circles. The first moment she saw herself was a shock.

Stories about Deborah 3

Deborah by CZski

posted 30 December 1999 10:31

Up until I moved back to the U.S. just a few months ago, I was a contributing editor to the MIRROR, so I will relate as much of the wonderful story about Bobby's stunning photos of Deborah as I can, but I cannot go into any great detail, nor can I reveal any personal information (last names, addresses, etc.) about either Deborah or Bobby. I have been privileged to know both of them as very close friends for quite some time, mainly because I have interviewed each of them many times for my MIRROR articles, and also because I am quite myopic myself (my script is: R -12.50 - 2.50 ax 180 and L -12.00 -2.50 ax 180) and sometimes wear glasses with 1/2" thick plastic lenses instead of my regular soft contact lenses.

Stories about Deborah 2

Deborah 2 by Andy

(Deborah 1 is here)

posted 30 December 1999 09:12

Here is another fiction on how the pictures of Deborah might have taken their way to Bobbie's galleries.
Well here is another fictive story about Deborah.

Debby looked at her picture in the mirror. She was not pleased at all what she saw. She was sad with her look. Her hair was long, maybe a little bit too long and she didn’t like the ash blonde colour. She felt that something had to be done about her looks. But it was not only her hairs that she didn’t like. It were these awful heavy lensed glasses that were so prominent on her nose. She felt very uncomfortable about them. She was completely blind without her glasses. With bitterness she remembered various unpleasant occasions when she had lost them in the past. She pushed them up her nose because they still kept on sliding down her nose. She had to see the optician to get them adjusted.

Four-Eyed Angel

by Robert

Most people laugh when they first hear the story then sometime later they hear it again and it takes on the trappings of truth. The big rig drivers in the northwest will tell you that they know someone who actually knows one of the drivers who have met her. She is blond, brunette, tall, short, good build, kind of chubby, quiet, bubbly etc. but all the time the story is the same. Sam Jennings who has driven for Walters Transport since he was sixteen told me the story one night some years ago while we sat outside Billings at the Grange Truck Stop. It was snowing a full blizzard and both of us thought better of making miles. I asked Sam about the 'Angel', and he said, "My cousin knew a guy who had seen her, darndest thing I ever heard."

Eyescene down and the community

by Bobby

I have been thinking about the last failure of the EyeScene. I do not know how many people of the community noticed that. Only two reacted via FB.

It was not for the first time when EyeScene was down. Actually when I found EyeScene many years ago, it had been down for weeks. What I found was just static, dead bulletin board forum. In spite of the lifelessness of the forum I was reading it with quite a passion. There was another forum about glasses, which was alive and served as a substitution. It was called Vision World Forum (you can find something completely different under this name now) and it consisted of one single strip of contributions made by many people.

Some months later the EyeScene started running again and most people moved back to the old place to talk about glasses and exchange links of, those years rather scarce, pictures of girls-with-glasses.

Occasional failures may happen to any website. EyeScene runs thanks to Moonshiner, who cares for the technical things. It used to be run by Chris, but after more than 10 years of functioning as an admin, owner and operator of the website he got tired and decided to hand over the stuff to somebody else. He just did not feel like running it any more. Even under the supervision of such professional as Chris surely is EyeScene suffered several failures. It may happen anytime.

So, I think it has shown us clearly how important for our community is to have two forums: "EyeScene" and "Vision&Spex". If either of them goes down the community does not get lost nor desintegrated and can gather at the other site. You see, FaceBook is good, but not al of us have the profiles at this modern social network.

So, what I wanted to say is just: Keep visiting both discussions and do not hesitate to contribute, as these are the Internet shelters or our small community.

And, as an illustration I am pasting a very old picture from the early days. I have had this picture in somewhere my HDD for probably 15 years. Just a month ago or so Specs4ever sent me an e-mail with the picture as an attachment. Yes, let us remember the old days for a while.

Stories about Deborah 1

Stories inspired by pictures of Deborah
Foreword:After I had uploaded pictures of Deborah (then it was on a Geocities site), the reaction of the community was very strong. Most people liked the pictures very much, although some criticized the "kinky" make-up. I thought the pictures might have been quite inspirational so I asked my friends from the Eye Scene to write some stories about her on 26th Dec. 1999. And lo and behold, my request was taken as a challenge. In ten days, six fictions were written. Andy wrote three of them, which means not only he got a great deal of inspiration but also he did a hard work as English is not his mother tongue. CZski was rather mysterious member of Eye Scene who disappeared later from Internet and never came back again; he had  very special website then too. T.E. is quite unknown member of the community, he just visited Eye Scene for some time, contributed a lot and then ... And the last (but not least) author is Specs4ever, the doyen of the Scene and a very fruitful writer. Now, enjoy the first of stories.

Deborah 1 by Andy

Well I was thinking a lot about a smart contribution on Deborah. I run a site myself and I know how difficult it is to get always new pictures. Now I look at one of those well done pictures I was able to download from the internet. As a professional photographer I analyse photographs in an other way than just “watchers” do. I realised immediately, that the expression of Deborah eyes is exactly the same as Judy’s modelling for me. It is a crisp and sharp look over the rim of those glasses. Judy does not need glasses yet. Her vision is still perfect. So my opinion is that Deborah was just modelling with those wonderful glasses. I would like to have those glasses for a nice animation on my site.

Another clue for classifying Deborah a non GWG in real life is that I can’t see any marks of these certainly heavy glasses under the makeup of her nose. The nose area of a GWG is always a traitor. Glasses leave always a mark on your nose. They last very long, even several hours after you have put your contacts in (this is an important hint for lens watchers). OK, Bobby so far my guess about the whole story.

Now here is my fiction about Deborah if she really were a GWG:

Debby woke up to her usual fussy beginning of the day. She closed her eyes again thinking about what was going to happen this day. She remembered that she had still to get a birthday gift for her boss Bobby. She suspected that Bobby knew about the avidly guarded secret of her extremely high myopia. She had worn contacts for the past 20 years.

My eyes got so bad!

The Fancy Dress Party

I must admit I love this story.

By ChrisB

The events I am about to relate came about as a result of a party that was cancelled. My wife Gen and I enjoy going to dressing up parties. The participants are really an extended group of friends some of whom have been involved with Amateur Dramatics (Am Dram) over the years and still liked an excuse to dress up. The parties were, I hasten to add, quite innocuous. The dressing up was just dressing up, Vicars and Tarts, Tramps, Pirates, etc.
The party in question was themed as Hollywood Heroes. My wife went to the costume shop in the next town and came back with something from ‘X Men’ and the Darryl Hannah character from ‘Kill Bill’ for herself. All yellow jumpsuit, boots, wig, but most striking of all, the eye patch.

Barbara 1

a picture by Misiak

This is an amazing girl. She is from Hungary, the same country where Tom the Hungarian was born, Barbara is not her real name. Misiak and me gave her the nickname as she looks like Barbaba in my series "The Glasses Couple" might look like.

The Cane

(Note: this story is based on a concept and a short story written by a woman known as ParaGirl. I have adapted the subject matter, and added a few frills. Cathy, this is in your honor and with thanks!)

by Amy Casseaux

The whole thing began with a big shot of irony, in that I saw it by accident. I was driving along through a neighbourhood and I passed by a garage sale when I saw someone handling a white cane - the kind that blind people use.
I circled the block, trying not get excited. When I came back around the cane was leaning, fully extended, against a table. I parked by the yard sign that said ESTATE SALE and got out, pretended to look at other items first before coming to the table which not only had the cane, but a couple of Braille books and a talking watch. Then I saw the label maker. Yes, it was Braille, too! I'd hit the mother lode!

The Pretenders

by Specs4ever

I glanced at Darla as we were sitting in the hotel room watching the television. She was really quite pretty, even though the thick biconcave myodiscs that she was wearing became the focal point of her face. I pushed my own identical –23D biconcave myodiscs a little closer to my face in order to see her features a little bit clearer. Darla was maybe an inch taller than my 5’6”, and she was a little bit heavier, probably about 135 lbs. to my 120 lbs. She had a much bigger bust, and her long jet black hair was tied back in a ponytail, whereas my mousy brown hair was cut short in sort of a pageboy style.

The Best Laid Plans

by Specs4ever

School was a real drag, so at age 17 I escaped the drudgery of learning. Why bother, I reasoned with myself, I wouldn’t ever need any of this stuff anyway. What I didn’t realize that even menial jobs require more than a grade 12 education these days. In hindsight I probably should have become an optician, or a person who worked in an optical laboratory. Glasses, and the optical properties of different lenses was the one thing that had interested me since I was a child. But, since I had a mechanical mind I became a repairman for fuel pumps at gas stations.

Because of The Sex

by Specs4ever

I sat at the writing desk with two prescription forms in front of me. One was filled out, and the other was blank. I took a black pen from the desk, and filled in numbers on the blank. The form read, OD –25.50 x +1.00 x 015 and OS – 24.50 x +0.50 x 165. The forms were identical, except for an increase of –1.25D in the spherical correction of both eyes, and I scrawled the signature on the bottom of the new one to closely match the original. When I was finished, tears streamed from my eyes behind my thick glasses, and I muttered to myself, “I am so sorry baby, please forgive me.”

A Progressive Migration

by Stingray aka Eye Write

I finally found a seat in the restaurant. What is the attraction here anyway? The food is lousy, albeit cheap, it's crowded and it's noisy. I was reading today's paper. Things don't look too great in Indonesia. And then she invaded my space.
I was aware that the seat next to me was vacant, but who would have the nerve to squeeze into the tiny space elbowing me in the process. She did. Not a word was uttered. There wasn't an "excuse me" or "may I sit here?". She just sat there anyway.
I glanced up from my reading to give her a hard cold look. I couldn't help but staring at her. I think it was her dark beauty that caught my attention first. It was the straight clipped frosted hair coupled with her swarthy complexion which gave her a foreign aura and an intriguing one at that. On her face were the thickest eyeglasses I have ever seen.

Kirsten

My name is Kirsten; I’m a 20-year-old wheelchair pretender/wannabe. As a young girl, I found that wheelchairs held a certain intrigue for me that I could not understand. My mom has been in a wheelchair since she was 3, when she fell off of a table in her dad’s workshop onto a board on the floor. The small of her back landed on the board, actually a 2X4 on it’s edge, and broke her back crushing the vertebrae at the L4/L5 level severing her spinal cord and of course leaving her completely paralyzed from that point down.

The First Morph

This is probably the first morph I made. In the late 90s, there were very few pictures of girls with glasses.  Internet searching was not as easy as it is today. I wanted to have a picture of a sexy looking girl with glasses, so I created one.
As the the girl in original picture did not have any glasses at all, I had to paint the frame and the lens effect. To make it took many hours. I used Photoshop 2.5, yes a very old version on a computer with only 80386SX processor, an I was not very experienced in computer graphic. The picture is small, there is no bigger version of it.
I love the picture. It is one of my very first work about GWG and it bring memories ...
The Internet connection was slow, charged by seconds, and unreliable. I found Vision World Forum, a BBS that consisted of one long strip of contributions, and Eyescene that was down and frozen in time those days. You may say it was not much, but I was excited, because I learned I was not alone with my love for GWG.
