The Cadet

by Specs4ever

Lacey had been a patient of mine for a number of years. Her first prescription was around –1.25D when she was 14, and now at age 22 she was presently wearing contacts with a –3.50D power. Lacey was a very pretty young lady, tall and slim, with very attractive features, and nice short brown hair and medium brown eyes. She had called last week for an appointment, and I escorted her into the examination room.
“Well Lacey, do you need a new prescription?” I asked.
“I don’t think so Doc, but you do this Oker - okertherapudic stuff don’t you?” she asked.
“You mean okertherapy?” I replied.

The Broken Lens

by Specs4ever

From the time he was a child Fred was the closest thing to a scam artist I had ever seen. He could con another classmate out of his lunch, he could horse trade better than anyone I had ever seen, and he could actually convince a teacher that his dog had eaten his homework. It helped that Fred was an angelic looking boy, and as he grew older he was almost considered beautiful. This was not what most guys wanted for themselves, but when Fred was selling things at over inflated prices to little old ladies that probably couldn't really afford the items, being a beautiful looking boy certainly helped.
Fred was often just a short step ahead of the law. But even when the law did catch up with Fred, nothing seemed to happen. He always walked that very fine line that bordered on the illegal. Even when his driveway sealant washed off in the first rainstorm, all the customers could do was complain to the better business bureau.

The Bride Wore Myodiscs

by Specs4ever

And here we have the sequel to the Bridesmaid WoreMyodiscs. This is new, fresh from my wonderful editor. And to those of my friends and acquaintances who have asked if this is a true story from my life, I must advise you all that alas, it is only a figment of my imagination, and while I sort of wish that the story could be true, unfortunately it is not. So enjoy.

To meet Linda again at the wedding was more than just a coincidence, it seemed like fate. We talked for a long time, reminiscing about old times, and then, we danced. I had Linda speak to Chuck and Sally to get their approval, as I didn’t want to get into trouble with my boss. I don’t know what she said, but for the rest of the evening, I became an honored guest, instead of the limo driver.

When the time came for me to take Chuck and Sally to the airport, Linda asked if she could come along for the ride. We drove to the airport with Chuck and Sally in the rear, with the divider up, and Linda and I sitting in the front. After we dropped the happy couple off at their airport hotel, Linda and I returned to her motel. Linda didn’t want me to go yet, but I also got the vibes from her that she didn’t want to invite me into her room. So we went over to a nearby coffee shop.

The Bridesmaid Wore Myodiscs

For the past few years I have been hanging around the southwest. For a person that was identified as a genius, with an extremely high I.Q., I should probably be ashamed of the way I have wasted my life, but for the most part, I have spent my life doing exactly what I wanted to. I left high school with my diploma, but it was only due to the kindness of my algebra instructor, who must have marked me using an extraordinary bell curve. I have drifted from place to place, almost as if I were searching for something, and it is only in the past few years that I have gradually begun to realize that what I am searching for probably exists only in my mind. Although I must admit that I have been thinking more and more about what my life would have been like if I had married the girl I was going with in high school. She was about 5' 2", with short dark brown hair, and large chocolate brown eyes. She was a little plump, cuddly, and vivacious. She was my steady girl and we were pretty serious. But, my parents talked me out of going with her, because she was very nearsighted and wore thick coke-bottle glasses. My mom kept harping at me that if I should marry her and have children, they would have bad eyes like Linda's. So, when we finished high school, we went our separate ways.

Another’s Tale

by Specs4ever

Part 1:
I leaned back from the computer keyboard and waited for the program that saved my data to the rewritable CD to finish. Then I could erase everything from the computer, and hide all traces of what I had been doing. I pushed my new –16D glasses tighter to the bridge of my nose, so that I could see the computer screen better. Once my data had been saved, I went back to the disc, and made sure I could open everything from the data disc. Then, and only then could I wipe out any evidence of me having been on the computer. I had been forced to save all my data this way since I experienced a computer crash in the fall of 2004. This crash had left me with no way to recover my thoughts and writings from the previous year, but fortunately I had saved all my diaries from the age of 8, and I was able to reconstruct almost everything else from memory.

Another Life To Live

by Specs4ever

I had been driving a truck for over 20 years. When I decided to retire early, I had tried to stay away from the life of a truck driver. Unfortunately, I had not been succeeding too well. I would find a day job that seemed to be satisfactory, and I would work at it for a few months, until the expenses exceeded the income. Once that happened, I would usually pick up another truck driving job.

I had hired on with a local company that ran refrigerated freight across the country. I have never liked driving with a partner, but to do this job, I was going to have to learn to accept it. And, Bob, my partner seemed to be a pretty nice person. He and I talked about how I could never sleep properly when the truck was bouncing up and down the road, and he agreed that if I felt tired during my shift, it was best that I pull over and get some sleep, no matter what our schedule was. So, as time went on, I eventually became tired enough that I was able to sleep for a while when it was my turn in the sleeper berth. And, for the most part, I was able to pull my own weight, and drive my whole 4 hour shift.

One day Bob and I had stopped for lunch in Oklahoma City, and when we returned to the truck, Bob climbed into the bunk. I drove for a couple of hours, when I was overcome by a bout of nausea. I quickly pulled over to the shoulder, jumped out, and left the remains of my meal on the side of the road. Food poisoning was the first thought that came to mind. Bob woke as I was retching my guts out, and he offered to drive for a while, so I climbed into the bed.

An Insane Desire

by Spec4ever

I was sitting in the mall, just off to the side of the entrance to Eyecrafters, a one hour spectacle shop. I was quite comfortable, wearing my regular old thick plastic -20’s instead of the normal hi index glasses I usually wear. As I read the National Star, laughing at the unbelievable trash they wrote, I noticed a rather pretty young lady glancing my way, as she walked towards the optical store. It looked as though she noticed me stare back at her, and she glanced away, so I hid my nose back in the paper. She came up and sat down at the other end of my bench. Not surprising, since that was the only bench, but I thought that my imagination was working overtime, and she was watching me. With a –20D correction, peripheral vision is not really great, so I was trying to get a better look at her when all of a sudden I realized that it was my glasses she was looking at. I whipped them off - held them out to her and told her they were –20D plastic lenses, and that she was welcome to take a close look at them if she wished. She sort of stammered, and stuttered, but took the glasses and gave them a thorough going over. Since I had my implants done, I am really blind without glasses, so after a minute or so I mentioned that I really needed them back if she was through with them. She handed them back to me, and I was able to get a good look at her. I thought that she was about 17, very attractive, with long brown hair tied back in a pony tail. She was wearing a rather becoming typical pair of oval framed wire rimmed glasses in about a –5D.

A Myopically Induced Tale

by Specs4ever

"Tomorrow I am going to do it." Tracey muttered under her breath. " I am going to put my glasses on first thing in the morning, and wear them all day. I don’t care what anyone says."

Tracey, wearing her glasses, limped down the stairs from her bedroom in her grandmother’s small 2-storey house. Her grandmother was waiting at the dinner table for Tracey to get there before she dished up supper.

"Well, I made it down the stairs again Gran. I sure will be glad when the cast is off this darned ankle." Tracey said.
"So will Lady." Her grandmother replied, and with the mention of her name a tail started thumping rapidly on the floor. "Oh, I see you are wearing your new glasses dear. They look very nice on you."

A Good Deed Rewarded

by Specs4ever

As I approached the top of the ramp, I was gearing down to stop at the stop sign. I glanced to my right, at the old blue extended cab pickup parked off on the right shoulder, where it could be easily seen by people exiting the highway as I had just done, or by motorists who were entering the interstate to head on to California. I noticed that the old truck had a full camper type protective cover, and I could see through the windows that the bed of the truck was crammed full of belongings. I took another quick look at the person standing against the truck, holding a crude hand lettered sign that read, “out of gas, no money, please help.” This was nothing that surprised me, as normally both off and on ramps at this interchange are filled with people begging for money. And, I work darned hard for my money, so I hardly ever give a second glance at the beggar.

This time I noticed that it was a lady, mid fifties, a little plump, and wearing a pair of late 80’s, early 90’s plastic framed glasses, with what looked to me to be a reasonably substantial minus prescription. Here was a quandary for me. I wanted to stop, but I had no time.

The Advice Columnist

By Specs4ever

As the editor of the weekly Free Press Tribune, I am pleased to introduce to you, the reader, our newest member of the writing community. To some, he needs no introduction. To others, please help me, in welcoming to the wonderful world of newsprint, the writer known as “Specs4ever”. Specs4ever will be writing a weekly advice column for those readers amongst us who wear glasses.

The preceding introduction gives me a build up that probably isn’t deserved. Until this point, I have been writing fictional stories about girls and women who wear strong glasses. I am unsure as to how this will translate into writing a weekly column giving advice to those readers who wear glasses, but I am certainly willing to give it a try. For this, my first column, one of our readers has written:

Life After Contacts

by Specs4ever

Madison sat at her seat at her classroom desk, and squinted at what the teacher was writing on the chalkboard. No matter how much she screwed her eyes up she couldn’t make out a thing. She had chosen a seat only 3 rows from the front, because last spring, in her old classroom, she had noticed that she couldn’t see anything from where she was, closer to the back. But now, after the summer holidays, she couldn’t even see from almost the front of the classroom. She sighed, as she knew what this meant. Her friend Katie had the same problem last year, and at age 12 she had to get glasses. There were a lot of older kids at the school who wore glasses, so Madison knew it wouldn’t be terrible or anything to have to wear glasses, but she still didn’t like the idea.

Reincarnated

by Specs4ever

The noise, the noise was awful. These darned 3 guys couldn’t stop arguing. If only I could tell them to shut up. I started to cry, and my mother came over to pick me up.

“Oh my baby, why are you crying? Tell mumsy what is wrong.”
“Tell mumsy what is wrong? Heck, I am only 3 months old. I have these 3 guys screaming and arguing in my head, and you can’t understand a thing I try to say to you anyway. These guys are all arguing about my vision, and I don’t understand a thing.” I tried to say, but my mother didn’t understand baby talk, and I suppose that was all for the better, because she would have figured I was nuts anyway.

Hard To Find One

by Specs4ever

It was a bright sunny afternoon in the late 80’s, and I was walking through a park near the campus of a popular college in the city. I spotted a group of 5 girls, all carrying backpacks obviously loaded with books, and whatever they needed for their college course coming my way on the paved path. I always like to look at pretty girls, so I started to give them the once over. The third girl back was wearing glasses, and as I drew even closer I noticed that she was by far the prettiest of the group. It might have been the glasses that made me think this way, because I have a fatal attraction towards females who wear glasses. Unfortunately in the years since contact lenses became affordable to the general public, the chances of me spotting a girl wearing glasses became slim to none. So, this young lady was of definite interest to me.

Betwixt and Between

by Specs4ever

School just hadn't interested me. All the time I sat in classes, I daydreamed about being somewhere else. So, once I got my diploma at the end of grade 12 I left school and went out into the workforce. Unfortunately I had not listened when others told me how hard it was going to be to make a living for myself without a decent education. My first job was as an apprentice mechanic at a new car dealership, and I did all right, but the wages were barely enough to pay the rent on my one room apartment. I stuck with the apprenticeship until I was a trained, licensed automobile repair technician, but as soon as that license was in my hand, I gave my notice. I had been working on some of the vehicles that were owned by one of our major customers, and Mr. Smith had told me that if I ever needed a job, I should come to see him. I did, and he hired me. Mr. Smith owned a construction company, so as a result he needed mechanics to work on his equipment. The pay was a little better than at the garage, but the hours were a bit longer, so I was finding out that this really wasn't much of a step forward.

A Million Diopters

by Specs4ever

This was so unreal. Here I stood in a courtroom in front of a judge. I had no attorney, and the judge had overruled me at every attempt I made to try to defend myself. I was accused of having made fun of a number of girls in grade school that had started to wear glasses when I was in their class. And, now, almost 20 years later, just as I was graduating from the School of Optometry I was being called upon to pay for my misdeeds. Yes, I had laughed at the kids who had gotten glasses, and I had called them 4 eyes and had even joined with the other kids in taking their glasses from their face, and hiding them until they went crying to the teacher, at which point their glasses would mysteriously reappear. I could not deny that I had done all that, and even more. But as I grew older I had developed an interest in vision, and vision care. I was only weeks away from being an Optometrist. Should this not redeem me for my earlier misdeeds?

The Girl Next Door

by Specs4ever

My wife, who was 2 years younger than me, had retired at 55, and we had moved from our home of many years to a more temperate climate.  The house next door to our new home was owned by a younger couple in their early 30’s that, at the time we moved in, had a 4 year old daughter.  We had moved far enough from our own children and grandchildren that I was afraid that we would end up regretting the move.  But my wife felt that our own families were so busy with their lives that we would have more quality time with them when they came to visit, and we knew they would just to get away from the snow and the cold.

Mike, our neighbor, was a carpenter, and at the time he was quite busy, as there were houses being built on any sliver of vacant land anywhere in the state.  His wife Janet was a nurse at the local hospital, and somehow they managed to work it so that one of them was able to be home with Jessica to take her to daycare, and the other would come back home with her at the end of the day. It certainly must have taken a lot of juggling, but they were able to do it.  And, after we had been there for a month or so I managed to talk with Jim a few times, and found that he was a pretty nice person. Marie and I even invited them over for a barbeque, and I know that Marie fell in love with Jess immediately.

Glasses From The Internet

by Specs4ever

My name is Meghan Anderson, and I have been very nearsighted, probably almost from birth. My parents first noticed that I didn’t seem to be able to see them, or any of the mobiles they had placed near my crib very well when I was about 6 months old, and my mom mentioned it to my doctor.  He suggested that they should wait another 3 months, and if there was no improvement, then he would have my eyes examined by a pediatric ophthalmologist.  Obviously there was no improvement, and when the ophthalmologist examined my eyes at the age of 9 months I was given a prescription of -14D for both eyes.

Of course, I don’t remember any of this.  All I remember as a small child is that first thing in the morning I needed to put my glasses on in order to see anything other than a major blur.  I do know from experience that sometimes the wearing of glasses can be a real nuisance, especially in the northwest where we live.  In the wintertime my glasses fog up the minute I come in from the cold, and I have to stand there until the heat from my eyeball warms the lens in the center, and the lens starts to clear.  I don’t really think it is the heat from my eyeball that does it, but I think it is because my lenses are a lot thinner in the very center, so they warm up there first, and then it clears to the outside, thicker edges. When I asked my mom why this happened when I was a little girl, she told me it was because of the heat from my eyeball, so at first I believed her. And in the summer, my glasses tend to slid down my nose on hot and humid days, so I am constantly pushing them back into place, because with my lousy eyesight everything gets blurry whenever they slip even a little bit.

The Nearsighted Robot

by Specs4ever

Gordon had never in his life had a long, successful relationship, and now he was alone again. The relationship that had just ended had looked very promising at the beginning, but Heather had not liked it that he preferred her wearing her glasses. From Gordon's point of view, Heather, with her severe myopia had been the ideal partner for him. Gordon really liked women that were totally dependent on their glasses and ever since he was a small boy, he had been strongly attracted to females that wore glasses.
As he thought that this might indicate that he was somewhat mental, Gordon had spent a fair amount of time and money for visits to psychiatrists. Fortunately, Gordon could afford it because he was very successful in his work and had a really good income. He had started a firm restoring vintage cars, like the Mercedes SL 300 Gull Wing. As so many of the other firms in the business of car restoration did, the cars were completely dismantled before they were reassembled. But what made Gordon's company special was that he implemented modern technology into the old cars, without altering any of their design characteristics. This meant he put a new engine, airbags and modern electronics into the old cars. The chassis were remodeled to bring the cars technically up to date. He had a long waiting list of customers and he charged them a lot of money for the restoration of their cars. It seemed a bit silly to Gordon, as they could easily get a brand new Porsche turbo for what they spent on their vintage cars. But, he had found that people were frequently not logical.
Well, most of the psychiatrists had not been able to help Gordon. And all of them spent quite a long time with him before they told him that they couldn't help him. They left poor Gordon thinking that he was just very slightly mentally off. But last year, everything changed when a young doctor told him that he was perfectly sane, that his preference for women wearing glasses could be compared to the preference that many men have for blondes or brunettes. On this memorable day Gordon gave up all the restrictions he had put onto himself.

The Girl With The Myodisc Eyes

by Specs4ever

I won’t, no I can’t, deny it. My attraction to, and my love of myopia have lead me to some strange circumstances. I have had people from all over the world write me, and compliment me on the stories I have written over the years. A film student even wrote me to ask me if he could make a movie of one of my stories, but I guess nothing ever happened, as I never heard anything more from him. Some of the people who have communicated with me have been out and out fakes, telling me a tall tale from their own imagination. But for the most part I have enjoyed every minute that this weird hobby has taken of my time.

A few years ago a young lady from London England wrote to me. She told me that she was about a –3.50D myope when she was 15 years old, and she wanted to increase her prescription substantially. So I spent some time writing her, and she did increase her prescription to around –14.00D by the time she was 20 years old. If she had taken my advice completely, I suspect that she would have been able to go even higher, but still, a –14.00D prescription is a pretty strong prescription.

Down the Same Road

by Specs4ever

I looked at the glasses I was holding in my hand, and then I looked at the picture I had just scanned into my computer. The glasses were the same, but the face in the picture wearing the glasses, with her eyes minified behind the strong lenses of these glasses no longer resembled the hazel eyed strawberry blonde girl, that I had just left a couple of hours ago. Gone were the strong glasses, replaced by 12 years of contact lens wear. The strawberry blonde hair was now much shorter, and there were no more bangs touching the upper rims of the glasses. She was still about the same general slim build, and the height hadn’t changed, but the smile in the picture was something I hadn’t seen much of for the last few years. How had it happened I wondered? How had we fallen in love, married, had a wonderful daughter and at the same time destroyed all semblances of our former carefree happy selves?
